Storytelling structure

Once you’re done watching/listening, I’d like to make a note of the storytelling structure of these true crime stories as you understood it.

  1. Where did the story begin? Was it the crime, or the run up, or present day?
  2. Who told the story? Was it a narrator, was the culprit interviewed, was the victim’s voice included, or was it a whole cast of characters?
  3. What materials were used to tell the story? Interviews, archival material, media reports or did the reporter uncover entirely new facts?
  4. What kept you wanting to learn more? Was it the fact that you needed to know who did it, or was it the storytelling itself?

Hang on to your notes because they’ll come in use later when you’ll sit down to write your own true crime story.
