There are many stages to publishing a book well. In the next two chapters, I’ve broken these into key stages, and listed all the tasks that need to be undertaken. Read these through, and then complete the activity at the end to help you decide whether self-publishing is for you.

Activity

For each relevant heading over the next two chapters, write down the following:

• What you can do yourself? What skills, resources, and experience do you have to help you do these things?
• What do you need to learn, purchase, or develop to do this yourself? This might include software, stock images, a training course, etc.
• Who you know who might be able to help you?
• What will you need to outsource?

When you have done this, you should:

• make a budget of what financial investment you will need to self-publish.
• make a plan of what time commitments you might need to invest to realise your ambition.
