Introduction
In this section we’re going to be looking at how we can use our body to explore character in writing fiction. Shakespeare said, ‘imagination bodies forth the forms of things unknown, the poet’s pen turns them to shapes, and gives to airy nothing a local habitation.’ These exercises are about ‘bodying forth’ new characters. Every body is different, size, sex, ethnicity, age, they all shape our bodies and the body is constantly changing. When creating an imaginary character, we need to make them real by giving them a unique body. We can use our own bodies to explore the ways in which a fictional character would inhabit their body and the world.
