Exercise 4 Body Scan - Ball of Light
Let’s explore the body a little deeper – lets go inside.
Imagine a ball of light in the palm of your hand, now swallow it. The ball of light is in your mouth lighting up your head like a bulb, now down into your throat, into chest, along right shoulder down into arm, elbow, palm, back up and down left arm into armpit, forearm, back of the hand lingers, thumb. Back up and down into belly, into hips, down big muscles of right thigh, into calf down into ankle into heel of foot, ball of foot – jumps over to left foot into toes up through shins into the knee, ball of light in your left knee, up into pelvis and then runs up spine, back of the neck into scalp, into eyes, into ears lifts out of the top of head. Noticing how each part feels – empty or full, tight or relaxed, open or closed, soft or hard.
Writing Exercise
Now swallow the ball of light again and let it travel where it wants to go in your body. Let the ball of light roam around your body freely. Let the ball of light go exploring – try not to control it with your thinking. Where does the ball of light want to go? Is there somewhere that is calling for the light, the energy? Somewhere that’s hurting. Somewhere that’s dark and lacking energy, somewhere that’s hiding that you want to get a better look at. Somewhere that’s hungry for attention? Let the ball travel to where it wants to go. No right or wrong place. Now stay where the ball of light stops and look deeper? Is this part of the body soft or hard, tense or relaxed, happy or sad? Does it need more energy or less? Does it feel weak or strong? Question that part of body – what does it want to say? Does it have stories or memories to share, emotions for you to acknowledge. Write down what that part of your body wants to tell you.
Read through what you’ve written and reflect – were you surprised? Did you learn something new? Any vivid memories or experiences. Was there some wisdom the body had to share?
