Conclusion
Some of these activities will have worked really well for you, others will have been more challenging. The lovely thing about poetry is you get to choose what works for you. The final activity of writing a poem to or about a body part is just one way you can use the skills you learnt. Maybe you take the character you built from the 'Foot Loose & Fancy Freewriting' exercise and use them in a story? Maybe you take one of the metaphors you crafted and use it as the title for a poem? Maybe take the 5 things your hand has done and use them as the outline for a poem about your hand?
The three most important things I want you to take away from this are:
- Make sure for every abstract thing you say in a poem, you add something concrete in as well.
- Allow yourself to be free in your first draft.
- Remember your story is important and you are the best person to tell it!
We would love to read the poems you've written as part of this course - you can share your work with us by asking your parent or guardian to email [email protected] and putting Bodies of Work as the subject.
